ASEAN Plus Three
The "ASEAN Plus Three" cooperation began in December 1997 with the convening of an informal summit among the leaders of ASEAN and their counterparts from the "Plus Three" nations: China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The two main areas of cooperation are "Economic, Trade and Financial" and "Political and Security." The latter includes a significant focus on transnational crime and terrorism. A recent meeting held in September 2004 produced an agreement to develop specific work programs in eight areas of transnational crime, including terrorism and cyber crime.
The ASEAN Secretariat official website provides a more detailed Overview of ASEAN Plus Three relations.
